Facial Recognition for Library Services
Facial Recognition for Library Services
This project seeks to enhance the patron's Library experience by using facial recognition technology as an optional (voluntary opt-in) alternative to a campus ID card for Library access and counter services.
What is the problem this project is trying to address?
How does this project support our sustainable smart campus as a living lab vision?
The technology will help streamline processes in the Library and save staff and resources. This pilot effort is also part of a learning process with potential for facial recognition to extend to further applications for university administrative, security, student housing, and facilities services. The feedback from this project will be shared as a knowledge base.
What's next?
The pilot should be ready for use at the ground floor entrance in February 2019, later expanding for LG1 entrance gates. If all goes well, the pilot can be extended for book borrowing later in 2019. The Library is also exploring facial recognition for attendance taking at library classes and events.
