From 3-10 June 2022, 30 students from HKUST and Guangzhou campus have joined an exciting journey to share their sustainable and smart solutions idea for Net-Zero for both campuses.
The 8-day certificate training program was kicked off with students spending a weekend retreat in the Hong Kong Science Park filled with team building activities and design thinking workshops to identify the problem and form teams to address it. The training continued in Clearwater Bay campus in the following week with workshops on life cycle analysis, prototyping, poser and video design and storytelling. The groups were arranged to have stakeholder interviews to build empathy and connection during the process. On 10 June, the groups presented their final solutions through videos and posters to VIPs including the Presidents from both campuses. Not only showing the practicality of their solutions, the teams had to demonstrate how it addressed the sustainability issue by using creativity, innovation with measurable impact and how it impacts across the system over time with life cycle thinking. Winning teams will be eligible to continue work on the projects and will have access to a $25,000 budget for implementation on our campuses.
